Can't Keep Johnny Down

I made a silly music video. They Might Be Giants were having a contest in July to make a video for their new song "Can't Keep Johnny Down". John Hodgeman was the guest judge. Those circumstances were much too perfect to just ignore. So I present to you an animated version of my floating head "worried". But don't worry about him. He learns to love himself in the end.

As a side note, how come nobody ever talks about how difficult it is to get a decent looking .mov export out of flash? Why do none of the video sites accept swfs? 2011, you astound me with your limitations in technology.

EP Cover Design

Here is an EP cover design I made for this lovely young musician who produces some quality You Tube performances. She went with someone else's design for the actual EP but I wanted to post this piece anyway. I wish I was as cool as her when I was 16. I was completely lame and I'm really glad You Tube wasn't invented back then.

(Actually it was invented in 1997 according to wiki. I was 15. Need to hire a fact checker for the next post.)

A few drawings I did while watching Taxi Driver recently. I didn't draw Deniro's mohawk because he only has it for such a short amount of time onscreen. I like how young the actors are in this movie. Drawn with a sharpie pen. (Sharpie pens are awesome. You thought markers were good. You don't even know).

The Starkeepers : A Children's Book

Here are some illustrations from my children's book. I thought I'd take a crack at one for older kids. It seemed easier than a graphic novel. It's the tragic tale of the night the stars fell down to earth, and ultimately, what becomes of them - and us. Hopefully it won't turn out to be as cheesy as it sounds.

Caption: "The stars fell everywhere, all over the world. They fell in canyons and on the sand dunes of the vast open deserts."

"They fell in icebergs and on mountains with the polar bears and the penguins."

"They fell in cracks and volcanoes where they got hotter and hotter, but mostly they fell in large bodies of water."

"The oceans that cover most of our planet's surface were lit up like lightbulbs and the fish all got nervous. They were used to the darkness and now they could see where the big fish were lurking and where their dinners might be."

It's taking a while for me to crank out these images, but here are a few that I have done so far. It is currently 4:30 am and my brain is saying byebye now. So byebye now. And Merry Christmas to all.

Great News for the Extinct!

Extinct No More!
The animals you thought were gone forever are really co-existing harmoniously on a secluded island (name withheld). What a relief! They weren't hunted to extinction by humans after all! They escaped their tragic fates to become part of the 'Animal Project'. Thanks to their own proactive escape artistry and raft building skills, they have maintained their species and have been living out their lives here for a very long time. Despite the occasional existential crisis and the daily boredom of everyday life, they are all relatively healthy, comfortable, and happy.

This photo was taken by a shipwrecked photographer, who sent this photo to his local newspaper inside an empty flask of pirate whiskey. Present on photo day were: left to right: Mister Wooly Mammoth, Saber Tooth Tiger, Passenger Pigeon, Monsieur Dodo Bird, Pteranodon, Tasmanian Wolf, and Ms. Giant Moa.

I can't claim these are new drawings, I guess they're pretty old now but I need to warm up a bit with the posting, and I don't really have anything new to post. These are all pastel and conte on coloured paper, and the middle one has india ink as well. They all measure approximately 26 x 18 inches I think.

I hope no one I knew in college sees this. They'll finally know I haven't done anything new in the last 3 years.
