Long Hair, Athletic Socks

I drew some skateboarders from the 70s. Those Dogtown kids from California had style, man.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turties

I may have gone a little overboard trying to make the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cuter.  These were done with Conte, Graphite Crayon, and Soft Pastel on Coloured Paper. This set is comprised of four seperate drawings.

My brothers were watching the movie and I hadn't seen it. Until then, I never knew the premise.

A bachelor rat adopts four baby turtles and raises them??? That's pretty adorable actually.

                               Angry Splinter, Calm Splinter.

This sketch of Splinter was found carved into the sewer wall.
I think he did it himself. __ OBEY __

In this version, Splinter knows he's the best though.
Watercolour and Graphite Crayon on Fabriano Artist Paper. 30 "x 22 ".

Knights of the round table. Ninjas of the Rectangular paper. Here Splinter is pretending they are all equals. Ink, Graphite Crayon and Watercolour on Fabriano Artist Paper. 30" x 22 ". Splinter and his boys.

Tumblr Thingie

I'm observing a moment of silence for the blog, in particular, mine. Apparently it is dead. So I've disguised my blog as a tumblr account to appeal to the young folk. From what I gather, Tumblr is a place where young people gain popularity mainly through re-posting other people's original hard work. I hope the internet doesn't come up with anything new, as my brain has reached its capacity for username and password storage and retrieval.

Anyway, my tumblr thing will contain my art and photography updates I guess. (Even though I do that on my website already).

People I Know

It's Mirco!

It's Scott!

Hand drawn with Graphite Crayon & finished digitally. Graphite crayons rule. Wear those suckers down a bit and they give this beautiful thick scratchy line. The kind of thick scratchy line dreams are made of.

Can't Keep Johnny Down

Do you like screenshots? I do.

I made a silly music video. They Might Be Giants were having a contest in July to make a video for their new song "Can't Keep Johnny Down". John Hodgeman was the guest judge. Those circumstances were much too perfect to just ignore. So I present to you an animated version of my floating head "worried".
You can watch it here ok?

As a side note, how come nobody ever talks about how difficult it is to get a decent looking .mov export out of flash? Why do none of the video sites accept swfs? 2011, you astound me with your limitations in technology.

Here is an EP cover design I made for a lovely young musician who produces some quality You Tube performances.

Little Swimmer

Little Swimmer likes to get her ankles wet, but only while wearing water socks. The rocks are sharp and the mud is squishy. It feels so weird.

Made in Illustrator.

Taxi Driver

A few drawings I did while watching Taxi Driver recently. I didn't draw Deniro's mohawk because he only has it for such a short amount of time onscreen. I like how young the actors are in this movie. Drawn with a sharpie pen.

Guitar Guru

These oil paintings are part of a series of cubist inspired figurative pieces I'm slowly working on. It started with this one that I did in art school, "Guitar Holding A Man" (shown above). I realized making this one (below) that I hate working on a canvas that's completely square.

These paintings have been lying around my apartment for the last year and a half unfinished. This weekend I decided to finish them up once and for all.

The Hobo Kat Doll

Hobo Kat is an original character created by Mirco Chen that I can't get enough of. I made this for him for his birthday. My brother André made Hobo Kat's banjo (that guy can make anything out of cardboard.) Check out some Hobo Kat sketches on Mirco's blog.

Tough Decisions For Candy Face

I saw this kid at the video store. She had severe candy face.  Despite the fact that she had obviously been eating candy all day, she was allowed one treat to enjoy with her movie. The only problem was that everything she picked up seemed impossible to put back down...

Watercolor on paper.

Portraits

My Great Aunt

A pretty depressing portrait of my Mom that doesn't really suit her personality.

I can't claim these are new drawings, I guess they're pretty old now but I need to warm up a bit with the posting, and I don't really have anything new to post. These are all pastel and conte on coloured paper, and the middle one has india ink as well. They all measure approximately 26 x 18 inches I think.
